With things returning to normal, I wanted to give a quick update on my convention schedule for the summer. I had to cut back on my convention appearances due to the wedding, so I missed a few earlier in the summer. Fear not! I have submitted panels to a few conventions in the latter half of the summer and fall.
This year I am polishing up a couple of my panels that I run at various conventions, the History of CGI in Anime and also my J-Rock panel. I am also revamping my animation panel, giving more insight to the animation process, workflows and more. As of now I don’t have a concrete schedule or any confirmed dates as the conventions I applied to are still in the process of reviewing and choosing their schedules.
I will provide updates as soon as I can and look forward to sharing convention updates with you all!
Our wedding was fantastic and ran smoothly. No issues at all and it was fantastic to see so many of our friends and family in one place. The downside was that we didn’t get a chance to talk to everyone as much as we would have liked. We had a blast unplugging for a week after the wedding on our honeymoon. We got outside and did all kinds of hiking. We talked about so much stuff it felt like we were dating again, which makes sense, because so much of our conversations lately have been dominated by house and wedding stuff over the last year. Getting a little sentimental already, right? Anyways, I will be back Monday with a video post and also inform you all of what is coming up.
I appreciate all of your support and continuing to check out the blog and see where things are at.
The first script draft for episode 2 is wrapped up. I am passing the script off to a couple other script-writers and film-makers for them to take a look over it and try to poke some holes in it in case I missed something or if I need to clarify areas that pop up. I am very excited to be sharing it with people and having them taking their first look at it.
I am going to give them some time to look over the script, so in the mean time, starting this weekend, I am going to be laying out files for an art show in May at a local coffee shop. It’ll be the first time that Cosmic Rage artwork will be hanging up for people to see and also see the process and behind-the-scenes type work for the project. Everything will be ready to go after the weekend to take to the printer.
I am going to do some behind-the-scenes content on the art show and the preparations, so I will have some new video content coming up next week. Thank you for your support! Good things are coming 😀
Production Update time once again, let’s do this! I spent time this week working on the script and pushing it towards completion. My goal is to wrap it up this week before a local film-maker meet up so I can have a few people give it a look over and poke holes in the story. Since I am so close to the project it is good to have a few more sets of eyes and perspectives on it. I am very excited to meet up with the crew again and for us all to check in on each others progress and talk about each of our projects.
Once the script is being passed around to fellow film-makers to look at, I will be spending some time working on getting things ready for my art show in May, where I will be showing Cosmic Rage.
Outside of the script work, I have been pushing ahead on a freelance project which will go towards paying for voice over work for episode 2. I am very excited to be getting things near completion so I can begin storyboarding and drawing. Thank you all for your support!
Lot’s of things have been going on so I haven’t been on the blog as much as I would have liked to for the month of February. However, things have calmed back down and we’ve got some catching up to do. So much, it required a video update. Take a look!
This week I started working on some animation tests for Cosmic Rage. The first issue I wanted to tackle was mouth movements for the characters. The workflow adjustments I am making here, involves using a tool called lipsyncr. This tool allows for After Effects to analyze the voice over file and make adjustments to cue up certain frames for mouth shapes called phononyms. That way, I can get around using just lip flaps and also drawing each frame individually. This tool allows for you to use various levels of detail in this regard. In this test, I used only 4 mouth shapes, testing out the low end of the spectrum. The high level of detail allows for 12 mouth shapes. My next test is going to involve the in between setting that uses 7 mouth shapes.
Keeping up with the theme of “New”. I ordered my first new tablet since my very first one I ordered in college. For the second episode, I want to do more frame by frame drawing and a traditional tablet, just wasn’t working the way I want it to. Some lines were jittery, and it may take several strokes to get a line the way that you want it to. I felt that in order to really make this an effective workflow, I needed to upgrade my tablet situation. So say hello to my new Wacom Cintiq.
I spent the later half of the week exploring the tablet a bit and working on setting up some various settings for hot keys to really make working with it efficient. I am planning on using the Cintiq for my next animation test using lip syncr. I will break down these various forms in depth upon completion.
This week I am starting a new session of teaching assisting online as well to kick of 2017. So when I am not at work or critiquing work, I will be working on the new animation tests.
I took some time over the holiday break to start formulating a list of topics and other things I want to cover as progress for episode 2 starts to get underway. I still have some recap type content I want to share, so it will be a little bit of a mixed bag here as things start to transition. I am very excited and somewhat surprised by the list of things that I have planned to share.
My first pieces of content will be more directed around things I learned on the overall process of Cosmic Rage and the first episode. I also have some restructuring of my Patreon page planned as well. This weekend, I am aiming to get into some workflow tests as well, since i have a couple routes I want to pursue for the second episode.
