Meet Ryan Vollmer

Where are you from?
Chicago, IL, USA

Why do you want to be a voice actor?
As far as work goes, I have not done anything more rewarding or exciting. With voice acting, you get to bring life to characters. You see the world through their eyes, which means every day can be a new adventure.

Who is your favorite VO actor?
With all of the different styles in which voice work can be approached, it is hard to pick just one. Bill Dewees, Marty Glickman, and Mark Graue are some of the “bigger” names that come to mind. Of course, since voice acting is very much the same as traditional acting, I can’t leave out Jack Nicholson, Michael Caine, and Christian Bale. There are many other individuals within the community that have played a part in my development, however.

Who is your favorite anime/game/cartoon character?
I would have to say Cloud from FF7. The “old” cloud though, not the new one. The new one is a little too emo for my liking.

If you could voice any character, who would it be and why?
It would be pretty cool to voice The Joker, but I would definitely have to expand my range. I think the challenge would be interesting.

What drew you to audition for Cosmic Rage?
I like projects with originality and a solid plan. Cosmic Rage had both. It is extremely important to me that a project manager be organized. If they do not take their work seriously, then how can others have faith in their project? Chris Biewer has been nothing but professional; which is one of the reasons I decided to sign on to this project.

Introducing Mark Harju

Mark Harju headshot

Where are you from?
Just like Sami- my character- I’m from Chicago born and raised.

Why do you want to be a voice actor?
I like to do creative work with people.  I have been recording as a musician for the better side of two decades, so I am comfortable behind the microphone and love audio- and I really enjoy the process of taking an idea and bringing it to life.  Voice acting, like music, allows me to do that.  Also, sometimes it buys me a bottle of whiskey or two.

Who is your favorite VO actor?
If we are talking famous actors who narrate, Morgan Freeman and also Kevin Spacey.  Morgan Freeman has a special ability to make every word sound undeniably genuine, and Kevin Spacey- he is simply a man who has a total command of how to use a voice (honestly, check out his impressions sometime).
But my favorite VO actor outright, without a doubt, the legendary Don LaFontaine.

Who is your favorite anime/game/cartoon character?
Without thinking too hard about it, Jubei Kibagami (Ninja Scroll)/Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy VII)/Pickles The Drummer (Metalocalypse).

If you could voice any character, who would it be and why?
This one is easy: The Lion from the 1994 Cadbury Creme Eggs commercial.  https://youtu.be/731B20sSX1w

What drew you to audition for Cosmic Rage?
I am always interested in participating in creative narratives.  Even more so when they are original writings.  And especially when they are fun and action-packed.  I was really happy to be casted for Cosmic Rage.

Where can fans follow you at or find more of your work?
You can find me wherever raspy voices are needed.  Recently I did some political VO work (http://babygotpac.com)- it was just a paycheck, I’m not a fan of politics.  I work for VoiceBunny.com as a voice actor. and you can find me doing VO projects at CastingCall.club (member: Rabbi8meat).
Other than that,

Production Update 163: Audio Galore

It’s been a productive week on the homework front. I wrapped up a draft of my art history paper that I am going to let sit for a few days and come back and take a fresh look at it again.

I did sneak in some Cosmic Rage work this week. I am starting to go through all of the audio and finalizing lines and going through areas for revisions. I have a couple audio sections to go through for scenes and I also have to render some out to send in for audio work to get done. I will for sure get more in this week since my classes are starting to settle down a bit. We are getting so close on Cosmic Rage!

Sorry for the short update, but next week’s should be a bit longer. Thanks for stopping by! I will be unveiling another voice actor this week!

Introducing Kristyn Mass

What character are you voicing for Cosmic Rage?
Myza

Where are you from?
I’m from Iowa.

Why do you want to be a voice actor?
It started as a really fun hobby, and then I started getting paid and getting bigger gigs and long term gigs. That’s when I decided to make it my full time job. Having your hobby as your job that pays the bills is pretty awesome.

Who is your favorite VO actor?
I don’t know if I have a favorite VO, but I really like Johnny Yong Bosch. I know it’s a bit cliche since you can’t swing an otaku without hitting an anime he’s been in, but he’s voiced some of my favorite characters in anime.

Who is your favorite anime/game/cartoon character?
My favorite game character is probably Francis York Morgan from Deadly Premonition, which also happens to be in my top three favorite games.

My favorite anime character is a toss up between Spike Spiegel, Shizuo Heiwajima and Vash the Stampede.

If you could voice any character, who would it be and why?
I have know idea! If they ever did a gender bent animated Firefly, I wanna be Mal, because no character in history has ever had so many awesome lines.

What drew you to audition for Cosmic Rage?
The story sounded awesome and casting call really made it seem like this was a project with it’s stuff together. Before I audition for anything I like to make sure it’s a project that will stick around and be able to succeed and Cosmic Rage definitely fits the bill.

Production Update 162: 3D Renders!

Hey everyone! I really appreciate your patience over the last few weeks. There has been a lot of things going on, so let me get you all up to speed!

At work I have been putting in a little bit of extra time in on a few projects. It comes with the territory. Things have settled down recently which has freed me up a little bit.

I’ve also been back in school this semester working towards finishing my graphic design degree. I’m taking two courses this semester versus just one. My branding class is going great so far. The course that has been throwing me a slight curveball is my Art History advanced writing class. I have a big paper that is due by the end of February so I have been putting in white a bit of time on that. I am getting close to getting to the next check point on this paper so this course will have a lighter workload.

One thing I have also started but haven’t mentioned here yet, is I am also doing some assistant teaching/critiquing for an online animation course. My class has been fantastic so far and I have enjoyed every minute of providing feedback to other animators looking to up their game. The course is starting to level out so I am getting some of my free time back.

Slowly but surely I am getting some of my time back to keep plugging away on Cosmic Rage. While it sounds like I haven’t gotten things done, I assure you that isn’t the case. I have been doing some light 3D work and getting some renders set up so that the files can render while I am doing all of these other things. As things start to settle down, I will have my 3D renders ready to go for when I get back into After Effects.

Things have been forming nicely on the voice over cast. I will be updating you more on the VO cast really soon! Thanks again everyone for you patience, I am excited to get back in action!
